This is a good overview, but with some syntactical mistakes:
Whats strange is that my installation on CAESAR gives error
ERROR 1698 (28000): Access denied for user ‘root’@’localhost’
unless I start mysql with SUDO
sudo mysql -u root -p -h localhost
